Take a fresh look at your style

If you want to refresh your life, there’s no easier way than by having a style review. And making yourself stand out, just that little bit, can make a world of difference. Find your own personal style, those tiny details and finishing touches that define you and you’ll feel like you’ve spent a million dollars.

Style has nothing to do with money

Cool accessories can be found in any funky high street store. Check out sparkly hairclips, gold sunglasses, that quirky toe ring. Try something a little unexpected, it might just work!

For you, the first step to developing your own style is to know what you're all about.

What do you like about yourself? Do you have great hair? Beautiful skin? Long legs? Luscious lips?

Are you known for how you wear your clothes? Do you have a knack for applying makeup? It is easiest to work around those things that make you feel good about yourself. Creating your own sense of style is fun.

Here's some tricks to get you started on your way to your own personal style. Choose the ones that work for you or try some of your own. Either way, take it slow. Style takes time to get right.

Accessorise

Accessories are style's quick fixes. You can't go wrong if you throw on a terrific fringed belt, a fabulous hair ribbon, a great beaded bracelet. Beware, however, of over-accessorising. Less is more.

Hats up

Not everyone can wear hats and feel comfortable but if you can, you have a winning style. There are so many varieties of hats from baseball caps to vintage 1940s berets. You'll never be bored coming up with new versions of this fashion statement.

Vintage is new and refreshing

What's old is new again. Research the vintage shops near you and pick up an inexpensive jacket, a cool bag or a pair of spangly earrings from the 1970s. Combine a vintage item with your new clothes and your same old look takes on new meaning.

Play with your hair

Your hair is your untapped style resource. Experiment: curl, straighten, gel, wear it back or up. You'll be surprised to see how many different looks you can come up with.

Makeup should add glow

Nowhere is your personal style more important than in the way you apply your makeup. It is not enough to wear the latest eye colours or lip shades. You need to wear makeup that complements your skin tone and your skin type. Once you have a basis for your face, you can be daring... experiment with colours and styles that define you. Try your local beauty counter for a free makeover if you want some tips and ideas.

Your own personal style is your signature. Make it a colour or a scent. Maybe it's your love of hats or your talent for mixing styles. Who knows, maybe you have a knack with socks! It doesn't matter... Your style will make you feel good about yourself and get you noticed.

Remember, your personal style looks even better if you’ve got great posture. Find out how easy it is to stand up straight and look great here.

And one final tip. Don’t forget your spring makeup! Our VIP beauty feature will give you loads of great ideas to make your spring face shine.
