On the second day when your period comes on, the boyish side of you comes out. But not the nice one the real mean one!

Myth!
It’s true that changes in your hormone levels around the time of your period give you mood swings. But it’s not true that they bring out a more ‘boyish’ or any other side at any specific time during your period.

Hormone changes – known as Pre-Menstrual Stress or PMS – start around the middle of your cycle so you may start feeling upset, or edgy, angry or sensitive any time after then.  On the other hand you may not get any symptoms at all – lucky you!

At Number 1:
Virgins shouldn’t wear tampons

Total myth!
The only way to lose your virginity is by having sex; it is not affected by your choice of period protection. So there’s no reason why you should not use them before you’re sexually active.

At Number 2:
You can't get pregnant during your period.

Total myth!
Well, it's unlikely but it's not impossible - particularly in the middle of the menstrual cycle. Don't risk it and remember that unprotected sex also exposes you to a host of sexually-transmitted diseases.

Being Girl
At Number 3:
You shouldn't wash your hair or body during your period.

Total myth!
Rubbish. Some girls sweat more during their periods and there's no reason not to stay clean and fresh.

Being Girl
At Number 4:
You should always rest during your periods.

Total myth!
Listen to your body and do whatever makes you feel good. Your period is no excuse for slobbing out; in fact a little gentle exercise and stretching is really effective in relieving period pain.

Being Girl
At Number 5:
People can tell when you're having your period

Again, totally untrue.
A quarter of all women between the ages of 10 and 50 are having their periods at any one time and it's impossible to tell who is having one and who isn't.
