How to beat the blues.

Feeling blue? That’s okay. It’s normal for your mood to go up and down when you’re a teenager. But did you know different activities can help change your state of mind? Here are a few suggestions from the Being Girl team…

Feeling apathetic and lethargic?
Exercise can boost energy and make you feel more enthusiastic. Try aerobics or use the gym equipment at your local sports centre. Whether your increased heart rate comes from a workout or from ogling fit gym instructors; it’s sure to raise your spirits.

Feeling sad?
Scientist types reckon that the best mood enhancing activity around is outdoor dancing. So if you’re feeling down in the dumps, grab your mp3 player and speakers, call up a few mates, and hit the park for an al fresco shakedown.

Feeling uptight?
Unwind with a relaxing swim. Yes, yes, your local pool might not seem like a very tranquil place when it’s a-froth with families and kids on a Saturday afternoon but try a dip before school and you could have the place to yourself. Well, you plus some hot lifeguards.

Feeling low?
Low self-esteem is easily fixed by setting yourself achievable goals. Try some more extreme activities, like abseiling, kickboxing, rock climbing, pot holing or even, if you’re brave enough, sky diving. You’ll feel really proud of yourself and more confident.
